ICAO and FIATA team up for training

August 3, 2011

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Assocaitions (FIATA) have signed an agreement to create a new Dangerous Goods by Air training programme.

“This is an important collaboration for FIATA and the industry,” said Jean-Claude Delen, FIATA’s President.

“We will be offering a training programme to our members backed by ICAO’s vast technical knowledge and regulatory experience. Our entire freight forwarder membership will benefit from this development, especially in such a critical area as the safe transport of dangerous goods by air.”

Raymond Benjamin, Secretary General of ICAO, added: “This is an extremely important initiative for enhancing the safety of the global air transport system. Freight Forwarders account for a large segment of all shipments transported by air and constitute a critical element for strengthening the air cargo supply chain around the world.”

The two organisations are looking at extending their partnership to include air cargo security and to establish a related programme for freight forwarders in the near future.
