Poised for Growth in Brazil as Parent Company Acquires Full Ownership
PHILADELPHIA,
SAO PAULO, March 2, 2006 - BDP International (BDP), a U.S.-based
global logistics and transportation company, today announced it
acquired full ownership of its operations in Brazil.
Established as a joint venture in 2000 with Grupo Mesquita of
Brazil, the company provides full-service air, sea and inland logistics between Brazil and major import and export markets around the world. Based in Sao Paulo, BDP currently operates 16 offices in Brazil, including Belem, Belo Horizonte, Campinas, Curitiba, Itajai, Manaus, Paranagua, Porto Alegre Airport, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande, Salvador, Santos, Sao Francisco do Sul, and Vitoria.
In February, BDP acquired all outstanding shares of the joint
venture BDP South America from Grupo Mesquita. The acquisition will have no impact on daily operations. As a wholly-subsidiary of BDP, the company will be directed by General Manager Roberto Croce, who reports to Ronald Young, vice president Latin America, in BDP's regional headquarters in Miami.
"Grupo Mesquita has been a good partner, enabling regional
management and our staff to establish a solid foundation to help our customers grow," said John M. Bolte, managing director- BDP Americas.
"Asserting a wholly-owned presence in Brazil is an important
initiative, not only for our customers in Latin America but for BDP clients who rely upon our global network as well," Bolte continued. "We're are excited about linking this strategic trading partner to our operations in North America, China, the Pacific Rim, Europe and the Middle East. Some of the world's most respected companies have significant operations in Brazil, and we are now better positioned to support their efforts to grow in this dynamic market. We intend to leverage our leadership in the energy and
chemical sectors to expand our freight forwarding capabilities, to support the region's automotive, consumer electronics, heavy equipment, pharmaceuticals and project logistics industries."
