Please note that the Port of Buenaventura, Colombia is currently extremely congested, resulting in major delays in service.
Several landslides have occurred in the spring in the areas surrounding the Port of Buenaventura and have affected the highway connecting Buenaventura with inland cities. This has led to a pile-up of import containers at the terminal, where for a period of two weeks, vessels continued to call Buenaventura, but no containers could be evacuated from the port. While the highway has been reopened, the terminal is still heavily congested and normal port operations have been severely affected.
The Port Authority in Buenaventura has taken some measures to improve this situation, and it is expected to go back to normal operations in about two months time. In the interim, vessels for all carriers calling Buenaventura are waiting between 24 and 48 hours to berth, and operation time has increased from 12 to 36 and even to 48 hours, thus tremendously affecting the schedules.
