ADVISORIES ::
Chile Infrastructure and Transportation Update

SANTIAGO, Chile - Chile's stringent, well-enforced building codes saved most modern buildings and countless lives. Still, extensive use of adobe in older structures meant that many of those buildings fell in the hardest-hit regions of the country.

The widespread destruction of older buildings-together with damage to bridges and roads, and coastal flooding caused by the tsunami-opens a potential windfall for Chile's well-developed construction industry.

More than 720 people were killed in Saturday's earthquake, an 8.8 magnitude temblor that ranks as the world's fifth-largest on record.

Transportation Update:
Air:
Airport cargo zone is shut until further notice.

Customs broker and forwarding agents' airport building is shut and under evaluation until further notice. A current estimate of 30 days was given for re-construction.

International airport is working with limited capacity. There is no electricity therefore no way to fill bunker to the aircrafts.

There is no way to get to the airport by normal highways as some of the highways were seriously damaged.

Customs in Airport and Los Andes - frontier pass with Argentina- are not working as computer systems are down.

Ocean:
Valparaiso is working with only 3 of 5 piers as two are under damage evaluation.

San Antonio is shut with no communications or electricity.

San Vicente, Lirquen, Talcahuano are shut with no communications as they suffered from the tsunami.

Navy base in Talcahuano has been destroyed.

Land:
From Santiago down south, there have been many difficulties. Some sections are absolutely crushed. The army has been installing emergency bridges as the only emergency means of transport.

The military has taken control of the country on all logistic means to expedite recovery and ensure safety.

BDP Chile Update:
It was requested, as citizens, to save in electricity, water, gas, diesel oil due to low distribution as the situation is highly critical in all senses. The majority of businesses have been closed to evaluate further damages.

90% of our personnel have been able to work from home though we continue to have aftershocks and many employees have suffered damages to their houses.

We are doing all we can to contact customers that have been affected by this earthquake, however it is a slow process due to local communication infrastructure difficulties.
