PHILADELPHIA - As you may know, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) mandated new safety requirements for the forwarding and transport of air freight beginning on Monday, March 12.
By Wednesday, March 15, TSA quickly acknowledged 'widespread difficulties' in the field associated with a key component of the initiative requiring third party logistics providers to obtain background checks from warehouse / distribution center personnel who tender cargo for air transport. Recognizing the business and operational impracticalities, TSA rescinded this procedural requirement indefinitely.
During the 72-hour period between March 12 and March 15, shippers and the air transportation / logistics community worked diligently to comply with the new TSA procedure while effectively managing the supply chains for which we are collectively responsible.
Going forward, BDP's Air Transport and Compliance units will continue to vigorously monitor and execute safety, security, and international trade rules, working both as a conduit and advocate for our customers. As supply chains globalize and the associated risks increase, we take our role very seriously, bringing dedicated staff resources to the policy-making, training, as well as administration of regulations at the field level. Beyond being a core competency, we see it as a matter of good business practice for our customers.
