Port of Antwerp Experiences Work Disruptions
June 9, 2009
Antwerp, Belgium -- Please be advised we are receiving reports
from the Antwerp Port Organization, Alfaport, that the port
is currently experiencing "irregular and selective work
interruptions."
These tactical work stoppages are causing disruptions to container
handling, including pick up, drop off and vessel operations
throughout the Port of Antwerp today. We believe these rolling
strikes come as of result of unsettled negotiations between
port management of the port and organized labor.
While these actions taken by dockworkers occur with little or
no notice in advance to allow for ample preparation, our experience
suggests work slowdowns of this kind run for only a few hours
in duration.
BDP is in regular contact with the Port of Antwerp and will
continue to monitor the progress of negotiations and affects
of these work interruptions.
