BDP is the first global logistics service provider to complete Responsible Care® Management System®
Extends cooperation
between EU, U.S. in the alignment
of health, safety, security, environmental protocols
PHILADELPHIA, June 6, 2007 – BDP International (BDP), a leading, privately-held global logistics and transportation services company, has set a milestone as the first global logistics provider to successfully complete the American Chemical Council’s (ACC) Responsible Care® Management System Audit.
Collaborating with both the ACC and the Chemical Distribution
Institute (CDI), a European-based global source for data, information
and advice specific to marine transportation and storage of
chemical products, BDP helped align and apply the two organizations’
management system standards to its global headquarters to assess
existing protocols and identify opportunities for improvement.
The audit covered a wide range of policies with specific performance
goals, including use of qualified contractors and vendors throughout
the supply chain; risk analysis of business processes for priority-setting;
and an organizational structure that provides for top-down ownership
of the safe, secure movement of hazardous materials.
"As supply chains become truly global, the importance of
diligent compliance with trade, security and environmental standards
cannot be overstated, particularly as it relates to chemical
logistics," said BDP President and CEO Richard J. Bolte,
Jr. "As a Responsible Care® Partner, we also understand
that it is incumbent upon us to assume a leadership position,
meeting the highest standards of stewardship and sharing our
own best practices to help advance the greater good of the industry
and its diverse constituencies around the world," he added.
"We’re honored to play a role in this sharing process
for a more unified global Responsible Care® program."
Because BDP is non-asset-based, the audit focused on its activities
as a freight forwarder. Similar audits are scheduled for other
BDP facilities this year and beyond.
BDP became a Responsible Care® Partner five years ago. A
recognized leader in international chemical logistics, the company
is one of approximately 70 Responsible Care® signatories
that are engaged in the use, transportation, logistics, distribution,
storage, treatment, or disposal of chemicals. BDP manages logistics
for nearly 100 chemical clients, including four of the world’s
top ten multi-national chemical producers, moving information
and products to and from Europe, the Americas, Asia and the
Middle East / Gulf regions, between multiple parties in supply
chains.
