Border Traffic:
Both the Mexican and Canadian borders are open but operating in a high
security mode. This means that all shipments are subject to full inspection
at the border. Delays at both the Mexican and Canadian borders are to be
expected. Truckload and LTL carriers are making pick-ups as usual and are
moving freight to the border for crossing.
LTL/LCL:
Carriers are making pick-ups as usual, with the exception of the North
Jersey/New York City area. Freight destined to these areas is being
picked-up and either held at origin or moved to the closest terminal and
held for delivery. Most carriers are expecting a one day delay on most
traffic. Some carriers have instituted restrictions on new business
expecting increased volumes from diverted air freight.
Truckload:
Carries are operating under normal conditions with the exception of freight
originating or terminating in the NY/NJ area. Delays are on a case by case
basis.
Rail/Intermodal:
All rail traffic was shut down yesterday. Most operations were back up and
running early today. The terminals in Northern New Jersey have just
re-opened in the last hour. Expect 48-72 hour delays as the shut down may
cause major congestion at the terminals and delays in grounding containers.
