United Airlines has been working closely with the federal authorities to safely restore commercial airline operations. The FAA Security Directives have progressed, regarding the resumption of shipping freight by air. United Airlines is committed to meeting and exceeding Security Directive SD 108-01-03E.

Effective September 16, 2001 at 10:00 P.M. CST.

Freight:

• Freight will be accepted from known shippers or FAA-Approved Indirect Air Carriers only.
Shipments received from FAA approved Indirect Air Carriers must be from known shippers only.
• Freight will not be flown until it has been certified to be in the combined possession of you, our customer, and/or United Airlines, for a period of at least 48 lapsed hours.
• United Airlines will not accept shipments from unknown shippers, either directly or through an Indirect Air Carrier.
• For domestic shipments, individual shipper names must be included in the handling section of the Air Waybill or accompanying shipment manifest. International freight acceptance policies remain unchanged.
• All shipments are subject to random screening to verify contents against the manifest. These random shipment verifications may be in the presence of the customer.
• Driver identification will be required at time of tender.
• As extra security procedures are being implemented, some additional time may be required at tender. Please plan ahead.

Small Packages:

• Small Package Delivery (SPD) service will resume.
• SPD shipments will be accommodated after a 100% physical verification and/or X-ray. The physical verification must match the appropriate shipping documents. These shipment verifications will be in the presence of you, our customer, and/or your agent.
• The minimum tender time is increased to:
• 60 minutes prior to departure at the terminal.
• 120 minutes prior to departure at the warehouse facilities.
• Driver identification will be required at time of tender.
