Our nation and our industry are beginning to slowly recover from the devastating effects of the tragedies that occurred over New York, Washington and Pennsylvania last week.
From the beginning, BDP transportation managers and overtime crews in all key operations have been in continuous contact with our air, ocean, rail and motor carrier partners, and other third parties, to reduce the impact whenever and wherever physically possible. BDP personnel have demonstrated extraordinary customer service under these difficult circumstances. We are proud of our people.
Candidly, because of the dangers that still exist, some downstream effects of the terrorist attacks remain beyond direct control as our carrier partners continue to experience delays in:
- Ocean cargo movement, due in part to the more stringent inspection procedures at breakwater and portside locations, which were put into effect by the U.S. Department of Commerce and Coast Guard.
- Receipt of bills-of-lading from ocean carriers.
- Air cargo movement, due in part to the FAA requirements for international and domestic carriers and domestic airports.
BDP continues to explore every avenue with our industry partners to ensure the timely movement of our customers cargo and documents. Driven by the unprecedented circumstances we are all experiencing, BDP Transportation and Operations personnel are prepared to manage anticipated delays, and have implemented contingency plans for:
- Air cargo movement
- Ocean cargo diversions per customer requests,
- Documentation delays and
- Short transit trade-lanes.
We thank you for your valued business and ask for understanding and patience at this time.
Regards,
John M. Bolte
