The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has tightened its cargo security rules in the wake of the U.S. and British air strikes in Afghanistan.
Effective immediately, BDP International will initiate the following operating guidelines, to support full compliance with FAA Emergency Amendment No. EA 109-01-01A, October 8, 2001. BDP will do everything in its power to minimize any potential impact to customers and trade partners, resulting from these necessary, expanded national security measures.
(To facilitate a clear understanding of the following guidelines, the term shipment is defined here as an airfreight order - import, export or domestic.)
All cargo delivered to a passenger air carrier must meet one of the following two requirements:
Cargo may only be offered to a passenger air carrier if the customer (shipper) is a known, active BDP customer with a history of at least 24 shipments booked via BDP after September 1, 1999.
A site visit by BDP personnel will be required for all airfreight customers, whom BDP began serving on or after September 2, 1999. A site visit involves completion of the FAA-mandated verification form (published in accordance with the agencys October 8, 2001 Emergency Amendment noted above).
Additionally, BDP personnel will be required to obtain the following information during a site visit.- All legal names under which the customer company operates, to identify itself as the shipper of an airfreight shipment and as its name appears on the airway bill.
- A listing of all physical location(s) from which the customers cargo may be picked up (customer's headquarters, multiple pickup points at customer-owned facilities or designated third party supplier locations).
Please do not hesitate to contact the BDP Corporate Air Transportation or Regulatory Compliance teams for additional clarification. Thank you.
