Advisories ::
War Surcharge Policy

As we have seen in a number of news reports, the insurance industry has been raising its premiums to ocean carriers, to cover potential losses anticipated as a result of the terror attacks of September 11 and current military activities in Afghanistan.

As such, a growing number of ocean freight carriers have received approval from the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) to establish a War Risk Surcharge, to cover the increasing cost of their operations.

Regrettably, as these Surcharges are imposed upon BDPs Ocean Transportation Intermediary, BDP Transport, we will be compelled to pass them along to customers. We apologize for such short notice, but effective immediately, BDP ocean transportation invoices for both FCL and LCL shipments, will include a carrier War Surcharge. The War Risk Surcharge will be implemented on a carrier-by-carrier basis predicated only by those carriers that have assessed the added charge.

We will continue to update our customers on a regular basis as we receive additional information. If you have any questions pertaining to the War Risk Surcharge, please contact Jack Bashkow, 302-774-1278, bashkowj@bdpnet.com, at BDP Transport.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support during this period.
