press releases ::
BDP forms joint venture in Qatar

PHILADELPHIA, DUBAI, March 11, 2004 —BDP International has established BDP Qatar, a joint venture with the Intergroup, one of that country’s largest diversified conglomerates and part of the Shaikh Faisal Bin Qassim al-Thani Holding Company. Based in Doha, the new logistics operation will offer a full range of services including import/export, air/ocean forwarding, consolidation, customs brokerage, project logistics and local distribution. It will be managed by Virendra Sehgal, the company’s regional director for India and the Middle East, and its Middle Eastern hub in Dubai.

Qatar holds the world’s largest proven reserves of natural gas and is experiencing rapid economic growth, including construction of chemical plants and oil and gas pipelines, extensive infrastructure improvements and expanding tourism. In addition, the country hosts the largest U.S. military base in the Gulf region.

“This is an exciting venture in a particularly dynamic market where our capabilities can be deployed to the advantage of our clients, some of which already have sizeable manufacturing facilities in Qatar,” said Peter Huels, managing director of the BDP Global Network. “We are confident that our relationship with the Intergroup will assure its success.”

Ebrahim A.H. Al Naema, chairman of Intergroup Shipping, added, “Intergroup was the logical choice for BDP to partner with, given our established track record with prime U.S. companies in Qatar, including Chevron Phillips and Conaco-Phillips. The need to service U.S. interests here -- in civil engineering, construction and other strategic areas -- calls for the kind of high-quality logistics support to which they are accustomed and that we can jointly provide.”

BDP, which opened a full-service logistics operation and regional hub in Dubai in 2003, is one of the leading privately held freight logistics/transportation management firms in the U.S.  It operates freight logistics centers in more than 20 cities throughout North America and a network of subsidiaries, joint ventures and strategic partnerships in 140 countries.  In the Asia and Pacific regions, BDP has 26 offices in 10 countries including Beijing, Dalian, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Hong Kong, Qingdao, and Shanghai, China; Taipei, Taiwan; Kerteh, Kuala Lumpur, Kuantan, PENANG, Malaysia; Bangkok and Phuket, Thailand; Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi and Calcutta, India; Jakarta, Indonesia; Melbourne and Sydney, Australia; and Dubai.
