'Movember' Challenge accepted: Changing the face of men's health

Throughout the month of November, a team of employees in the Philadelphia corporate office agreed to ditch our razors for the month to grow mustaches and beards to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, including prostate and testicular cancer. All collected funds will be donated to support the Movember Foundation.

The Movember Foundation started as a small fundraiser in 2003 and has grown into a global campaign with the goal of “changing the face of men’s health”. It has raised hundreds of millions of dollars and around 5 million men, and women, participate each year all across the globe.

In Philadelphia, we had 24 male BDP employees join the “BDP Mo Bros” team. To raise money, we sought support and donations from our friends, family, and coworkers. Just the idea of watching all of us grow mustaches was enough to convince them to donate to the cause. We set out with a goal to raise $1,500 as a team, but we ended up raising over $3,400! On top of that, the Bolte family graciously agreed to match our total, which will bring our final donation number closed to $7,000! We truly surpassed the expectations we had in mind, and are grateful to the Bolte family for helping us to nearly quadruple our intended goal.

It’s incredibly humbling to be part of a company where charity and giving back are so important and integral to the company culture. It also speaks volumes to the company’s investment in living our core values. We were inspired by other BDP Cares events where we saw first hand how other members of the BDP family contribute to meaningful organizations and give back to local communities. And who knows - with the success we had in the Philadelphia office, the other gentlemen of BDP should start prepping themselves to grow mustaches next year so we can roll this out globally!
