On September 13, we shared an update from the Federal Maritime Commission, which called for the creation of a National Shipper Advisory Committee. Today, November 3, the Federal Register issued a new notice seeking one new member for the committee.

The Committee will advise the Commission on policies relating to the competitiveness, reliability, integrity, and fairness of the international ocean freight delivery system; this is an opportunity to partake in pivotal conversations that will make an impact on the industry at large.

The Committee consists of twenty- four members, including a Chair and a Vice-Chair, elected by the Committee from among the Committee’s members. Id. 42502(c)(1).

The Commission requests interested persons to submit applications to fill the vacancy on the Committee. The vacancy is for an individual that will represent an entity that imports cargo to the United States using ocean common carriers. The Commission intends to balance the membership of the Committee and will consider factors such as commodities shipped, ports used, geographic areas served, and origins of cargo, as well as other relevant factors. Appointments shall be made without discrimination on the basis of age, race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or religion.

Interested parties can send applications to the Designated Federal Officer (DFO), Dylan Richmond, nsac@ fmc.gov. Please note, all applications must be received on or before November 17, 2021.
