For many of us, the holiday season is a time spent with family, exchanging gifts and enjoying delicious meals with loved ones. But it’s also the perfect time to focus on gratitude and giving.
All across the globe, our teams have been getting in the holiday spirit by giving back to their local communities.
In Brazil, our team collected donations to buy sweets and candies for the children of 7 Lar Padre Juanito orphanage in São Paulo. “A month earlier, we went to donate toys to the children,” comments Efigênia Guerra, HR Manager - LATAM. “During the visit, they mentioned they would like to receive candy, which they don’t normally get to eat because they can only use the funding received from the government to buy necessities - and we couldn’t say no to this request!”
In addition to their outreach to the orphanage, the team also participates in an annual tradition of ‘adopting’ a child for Christmas. “We look forward to this event each year,” says Guerra. “In conjunction with the local post office, we get letters written by poor children asking Santa for toys, clothes, etc. We collect the letters and put them on a Christmas tree in our São Paulo and Santos offices. Employees can then pick a letter and buy the gifts for them. Then the post office helps send the gifts to the children.”
In Italy, our team organized a visit to Comitato Maria Letizia Verga, a center for research and treatment of childhood leukemia. The center is sustained by donations and it connects doctors, hospital staff, parents and volunteers with the objective of offering the best medical assistance to young patients and their families. “As a team, we collected some presents for the kids,” explains Gita Dvorakova, Business Analyst - BDP Italy. “We visited the center together and also had the opportunity to visit some research centers within the facility. It was a great experience for us and we were so happy to support such a great organization & cause!”
In Houston, teams rallied to collect toys for the local Toys-for-Tots organization. Over 65 toys were collected and will be donated to local children in need of holiday cheer. Teresa Lopez, HR Coordinator mentioned, “Usually we collect around 35 toys, so we were absolutely thrilled with this year’s turn out from our BDP employees.” Additionally, the Houston team had a sock drive in honor of the late US President George HW Bush that will go directly to the Houston Area Women’s Shelter. In total the team collected 460 pairs of socks!
