Helping Hands During the Hurricanes

A Turbulent End to Summer

Late August and early September brought turbulent weather to the Gulf and Southeast regions of the United States in the form of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Two of the largest and most destructive hurricanes to date wreaked havoc on the Houston and Miami regions, leaving a path of devastation and directly affecting employees in these offices. Many suffered losses to their homes, vehicles, and personal belongings, with some employees displaced for several days due to excessive damages and flooding.

When Hurricane Harvey hit Houston in 2017, BDP Cares utilized our Houston Warehouse to collect supplies.

Response for Help

In the midst of the hurricane aftermath, employees from all over the globe inquired as to how they could help their fellow colleagues. When employees were reminded of the BDP Cares Employee Relief Fund, setup to help BDP employees in need of assistance during difficult times, the response rate was truly remarkable. In just a few short weeks, nearly $30OOOUSD was raised by the generous contributions of BDP employees. Of special note, $12000USD of that total was contributed directly from the BDP Asia Pacific (AP) region. In thanking his team for their generosity, Gary Chan, Managing Director of AP said, "Every dollar that you contribute is deeply appreciated. This humble gesture can have a major impact on supporting our BDP family. Our prayers and financial support will provide them the opportunity to rebuild their lives in a way that can bring the most comfort during these very difficult times."

Values In Action

In total, the amount of funds raised for BDP Cares disaster relief was upwards of $231,000USD thanks to the generous contributions of employees and matching funds from BDP's ownership.  BDP's Chairman and CEO, Rich Bolte stated, "The rate of response from BDP employees was truly humbling and overwhelming, though knowing how strong the deep rooted family culture of the BDP community is, this should come as no surprise. We support each other in the good times and bad, and most certainly when our fellow colleagues are most in need of our help. This is a true testament to our family living our values of BDP is a home, not a workplace, and Together we are a family, not a workforce."
