US lifts steel, aluminum tariffs on Canada, Mexico

May 17, 2019 - On Friday afternoon, The United States Trade Representative issued a statement confirming the U.S. tariffs and all retaliation from Canada and Mexico would cease. The statement called the agreements "great news" for the steel and aluminum industries and for American farmers affected by retaliatory tariffs.

China: What deal?

May 20, 2019 - China has rebuffed claims by U.S. President Donald Trump that it broke a deal made to end the trade war. Lu Kang, the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, said on May 20: “I am not sure what the U.S. side was referring to by 'a deal.' Perhaps it has bore in mind all along 'a deal' of its own wild wish, one that China has certainly not agreed on, however.”

U.S., EU, Japan push for a pact to rein in China’s state subsidies

May 20, 2019 - The U.S., EU, and Japan are pushing for an agreement on measures to curb state-support of industries with the goal of eventually limiting how much China backs its private companies, according to people familiar with the negotiations.

Report: 67% of retailers say omnichannel is a priority

May 17, 2019 - Retailers are investing in omnichannel strategies for a number of reasons, including customer acquisition, cost efficiency and to gain a competitive advantage, according to a 2019 Shopgate report emailed to Retail Dive. Half of the respondents to Shopgate's survey said mobile shopping apps are a top priority in their omnichannel plans, and 45% said mobile points of sale as another high priority within their future omnichannel strategies.

Trade disputes are weakening future growth, OECD says

May 21, 2019 - Conflicts between the U.S. and its major trade partners have weakened business investment around the world, threatening to hamper future as well as current rates of economic growth, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said Tuesday.

Carrier relief as MEPC fails to agree on plan for mandatory speed limits for shipping

May 20, 2019 - The 74th sitting of the IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) ended on Friday without an agreement of any of the proposals put forward to reduce GHGs (greenhouse gas emissions) from shipping.

Teamsters oppose proposed FMCSA pilot to lower driver age to 18

May 22, 2019 - The International Brotherhood of Teamsters voiced its opposition this week to a proposed pilot program from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) that would allow drivers aged 18 to 20 to drive commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce.
