Container ships collide in Karachi

March 19, 2018 - Shipping containers have fallen into the sea at the Port of Karachi in Pakistan after two container ships collided on Monday.

Hapag-Lloyd's 8,000-TEU Tolten collided with the 6,350-TEU Hamburg Bay at South Asia Port Terminal, one of South Asia's busiest seaports. There are no reports of injuries.

A special operation has been launched to retrieve the containers.

Pakistan’s two key ports Karachi and Qasim are facing extreme congestion, according to local media reports, and a similar incident took place in Karachi two months ago.
